Yes an external screen is attached to the thunderbolt connector pretty much permanently as I use my laptop in a semi permanent desktop type of setup. Interestingly I've got much more problems with the screen here in Thailand as with the one in Holland (seen no issues at all down there) where I use a similar setup.
Not sure if it is easy to reproduce as I did not do anything different as when I normally wake the laptop up. But will try to remember details if it happens again. Will try again tomorrow morning
